On Saturday morning of SoulFest, hundreds of participants will gather to walk 1 mile to a pond and back, representing the walk thousands around the world take daily to retrieve clean water for their families. Participants will carry a bucket, fill the bucket up at the pond and walk back while learning about the struggle for clean water in Africa along the way.
WHEN: Saturday August 6, 2011 @ 11:00 am WHERE: Blood: Water Mission tent at SoulFest
Signing up is FREE
*Participants do need to sign up for the walk. There is no obligation to raise money but we hope that you'll consider telling your friends and family about your involvement and look for ways to raise funds. Our hope is that each participant will commit to raising $100.
What Are We Raising Money For?
Money raised will go towards the funding to build new wells and repair old ones in Northern Uganda through Blood:Water Mission.
Goals
$10,000 will provide 2 new wells or 5 well repairs
$25,000 - 5 new wells or 13 well repairs
$50,000 - 10 new wells or 27 well repairs
$100,000 - 20 new wells or 54 well repairs
How Does This Get Accomplished?
Blood: Water Mission is partnering with us this year to produce the Walk4Water on-site. They will also be the organization that connects us to Northern Uganda and coordinates the building of new wells by working with Deleo and his organization in Uganda called Divine Waters.
Why Northern Uganda?
This work targets the Ogur and Abako sub-counties of northern Uganda. For two decades northern Uganda suffered from the violence between the Lord’s Resistance Army and government forces. Now communities are rebuilding, but these decades of war have destroyed basic infrastructure, disrupted traditional farming practices, and have led to a crippling dependence on emergency food aid. Emotional wounds from the violence have left the people struggling to hold onto hope. The wells we are funding target former IDPs (internally displaced people) as they attempt to resettle and rebuild their communities.

Blood:Water Mission is a grassroots organization that empowers communities to work together against the HIV/AIDS and water crisis in Africa.
Our Core Purpose: To build community through creative social action.
Blood:Water is a group of passionate people who have been inspired by our friends in Africa, friends who face unbearable challenges from the HIV/AIDS and water crises. We creatively and thoughtfully raise awareness and the necessary funds for the provision of clean blood and clean water in sub-Saharan Africa.
Founded by the multi-platinum, GRAMMY Award-winning band, Jars of Clay, Blood:Water Mission began as a call to personalize the HIV/AIDS crisis in Africa. The members of the band were committed to share the often-untold stories: those of creative, compassionate, hard-working Africans bringing health, hope and healing into their respective communities.
